Introduction to HTML Compare

Introduction

Welcome to HTML Compare!

HTML Compare provides a powerful solution to identify and process the differences between any two HTML or XHTML documents and produce a HTML redline document. Its primary use is as a toolkit for integration into other systems or applications via REST API, but it may also be run standalone from the command-line.

What can HTML Compare do?

HTML Compare’s REST API allows asynchronous comparison which can be monitored as a job. The product produces a HTML redline document to easily and clearly visualise the changes on any browser.

Prerequisites

HTML Compare is written in pure Java, so the only software requirement is to install a Java runtime version 1.8 or greater, either 32-bit or 64-bit.

There are no specific hardware requirements, however we recommend a system with a minimum of 8 gigabytes of RAM installed.

The first release of HTML Compare

  • Focuses only on HTML documents such as manuals, technical documentation.

  • Referenced resources such as images, other HTML documents are not compared.

  • Applies second document CSS and javascript to final output and the changes to referenced CSS and javascript are not compared.

Future improvements

  • Improved HTML redline output with WYSIWYG view.

  • Comparison support for referenced resources such as images, other HTML documents.

  • Batch/directory processing
